We accomplish this through gamification. What is Gamification? It is the application of game design elements and principles into non-game contexts. In adult learning, it is a strategy for increasing engagement, cognitive retention, and safe risk-taking in the learning and discovery process.

Gamification formats for enhancing the adult learning experience!
It may seem odd to think about using games to teach serious subjects like Emotional Intelligence, Generational Diversity, Behavior and Communication Styles and Creating a Positive Workplace Environment, but even the CIA uses tabletop games to teach intelligence gathering, overcoming obstacles, and collaboration. Research on gamification also shows that it leaves a lasting positive affect on individuals, and can improve one's ability to comprehend complex concepts and content.
We have found that gamification via tabletop games (the boardgame) is a great way to bring employees together to collaborate and share experiences and knowledge. The format is more familiar to most people than video games, they foster face-to-face interactions, and provide a compelling learning experience.

Emotional Intelligence describes the ability to understand one's own feelings, feelings and moods of groups, and how these emotions can influence one's motivation and behavior.
Individuals with high emotional intelligence can manage his or her own impulses, communicate with others effectively, manage change well, solve problems, and use humor to build rapport in tense situations. These individuals also have empathy, remain optimistic even in the face of adversity, and are gifted at educating and persuading in a sales situation and resolving customer complaints in a customer service role.
By blending the classroom and game formats into one experience, this "course-in-a-box" will give learners the tools they need to be emotionally intelligent inside and outside the workplace environment.

Pathways to a Positive WorkPlace
In this gamification format, Pathways to a Positive Workplace will guide you through a discovery of how to build, strengthen, and maintain a positive work setting as a supervisor. Themes include: Creating a solid organizational structure; Teamwork and synergy; Creating clear expectations; Inter- and Intra-personal dynamics. "Players" will interact with others, engage in group problem solving and discussion, and work on multiple teams. Bridging the Generational Divide
This learning game focuses on the thinking, historical perspectives, behavioral norms and differences between generations, and how to bridge the cognitive awareness and tolerance gaps that occur because of them. Participant "players" gain a better understanding of the five generations that occupy many of our current workplaces, and how to better appreciate and navigate more effectively through those differences.

The Styles Safari
This board game is an adventure into the behaviors, norms, needs, and communication patterns of individual styles and the impact they have on people-to-people relationships. It is truly an exploration of discovery and challenge. Players engage on multiple levels of "play" as they learn to flex to meet other style needs, face potential hazards along the trail, and own up to communication breakdowns when their intent and impact do not align.
Different from others in our learning series, this game is designed for both work and non-work environments. Families and friends, as well as teams of co-workers can enjoy learning more about themselves and each other in this most intriguing game!
